Bindery Assistant Operator - Hickory Printing Solutions,
Assists Bindery Operator as directed in the make-ready of equipment
and miscellaneous machine set up. Assist the Operator in the
training of crewmembers, delegation of work assignment, and follows
up on crew performance and adherence to plant safety rules.
Maintains quality standards and aids in active efforts to reduce
spoilage. Operates auxiliary equipment as qualified and when
assigned by Supervisor. Maintains good housekeeping practices.
Performs other tasks as assigned by the Operator or Supervisor.
Assumes full responsibility for running equipment during the
absence of the Bindery Operator. Relieves other crewmembers on
equipment when necessary. Thoroughly understands all aspects of the
Bindery Utility and Material Handler occupations so as to be able
to instruct or work in any of these operations. Lubricate and
maintains line equipment as directed by the Operator and/or as
outlined in departmental practices. Must be willing to work
over-time, nights and weekends as needed
+ General knowledge to set up and maintain a variety of single
function, hand and foot automated bindery machines such as
staplers, punches, drills and binding-glue devices.
+ Under the direction of the operator, apply working knowledge and
assist in the setup of more complicated binding machinery.
+ Knowledge of basic arithmetic and fractions, skill in using hand
tools (i.e., rulers, screwdrivers, wrenches) to make machine
+ Ability to set up, arrange, and hand collate as well as to fan,
jog and stack various sizes of paper neatly.
+ Must be able to work in a team environment.
+ Must have strong mechanical skills, good personal relationship
and leadership skills.
+ Must have basic computer skills and the ability to follow complex
+ Must be able to work weekend and weekday overtime.
+ Ability to communicate effectively with others and to carry out
detailed written or oral instructions.
+ Ability to use vision to identify product defects.
+ Ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position with
or without reasonable accommodations.
+ Job requires the ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force
occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds frequently and/or greater than
negligible up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
+ Strong attention to detail
+ Must be able to operate well in a team environment
+ Must be able to stand for long periods of time
+ Must be able to perform repetitive hand motions
+ Must have the ability to achieve standard production and quality
+ Must have experience working in a fast paced, demanding, and
deadline driven production environment
+ Must be willing to work mandatory overtime periods as critical
work volume dictates
