Job Summary:

The Rubber Chemist will be a hands-on position managing and supporting formulation development, materials testing, and pilot-scale production through commercialization. He/she will assist operations and sales personnel in identifying and developing materials needed to meet specific solutions for internal and external customers. He/she will troubleshoot customer issues and create solutions that lead to a competitive advantage through innovation. He/she sets specifications -and testing procedures for raw materials, work in progress i.e. the uncured rubber and finished goods i.e. the cured rubber. The ideal candidate will be energetic, have a creative and innovative mindset, and have demonstrated the ability to deliver results quickly and efficiently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- - - - - - - - -Develop and optimize rubber formulas for current and future product lines.
- - - - - - - - -Seek out new technologies that can be used to enhance the performance of our products and provide opportunities to participate in new markets and applications.
- - - - - - - - -Coordinate material testing and product development with Acoustics, R&D, and Manufacturing.
- - - - - - - - -Prepare reports, analysis summaries, and presentations as requested.
- - - - - - - - -Perform cost-benefit analysis for alternate materials.
- - - - - - - - -Engage with external suppliers to successfully develop new products and support existing products.
- - - - - - - - -Communicate technical knowledge and experimental findings in both written and verbal formats to peers, management, and customers in a concise and clear manner.
- - - - - - - - -Analyze product issues and failures with root cause analysis and develop better and more innovative solutions.
- - - - - - - - -Provide guidance to process engineering, quality, and operations regarding material processing issues.
- - - - - - - - -Manage multiple projects simultaneously. Create/maintain engineering timelines, escalate roadblocks, and drive projects to completion.
- - - - - - - - -Perform failure and predictive analyses, and data analysis to develop advancements for solutions, focusing on material selection, modification, and processing effects.
- - - - - - - - -Perform other miscellaneous duties as required or requested.
- - - - - - - - -Some travel, as necessary, may be required to visit suppliers, customers, and Blachford manufacturing facilities.

Qualifications/Skills/Experience Required :
- - - - - - - - -Bachelor's degree in chemistry, polymer science, chemical engineering, or related fields, with coursework or formal training in rubber formulation and processing.
- - - - - - - - -Knowledge of ISO9001, 14001, and IATF16949 standards.
- - - - - - - - -3-5 years working in product development or related field.
- - - - - - - - -Practical knowledge of rubber material testing, tensile & tear testing, durometer/hardness, compression set, heat/fluid/ozone resistance, bonding & adhesion strength, rheometer characterization of vulcanization/cure kinetics.
- - - - - - - - -Hands-on experience with chemical reaction characterization techniques, including DSC and corresponding thermal-mechanical characterization techniques TMA and DMA.
- - - - - - - - -Practical knowledge of rubber mixing/compounding technologies such as Banbury type mixers in relation to raw material selection and formula design.
- - - - - - - - -Practical knowledge of rubber processing technology such as calendaring, sheeting, compression molding, and injection molding technologies in relation to raw material selection and formula design.
- - - - - - - - -Strong written and verbal skills.
- - - - - - - - -Strong interpersonal communication skills; must be able to communicate with all levels of management.
- - - - - - - - -Ability to assist with testing programs and presenting results to customers.
- - - - - - - - -Strong computer skills.
- - - - - - - - -Basic project management and organizational skills.
- - - - - - - - -Must be self-directed.
- - - - - - - - -Must be able to work with others.
- - - - - - - - -Creative and intellectually curious.
- - - - - - - - -Team player with a growth mindset and track record of successful multitasking.
