A rewarding opportunity is available for an experienced RN with stepdown unit expertise to provide high-caliber nursing care in a 33-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting. This contract position is located in Gastonia, NC, offering care to patients with conditions such as stroke risk, pneumonia, cellulitis, atrial fibrillation, COPD, and more. The patient-to-nurse ratio ranges from 5:1 to 6:1, allowing for impactful and attentive care. Qualifications and Desired Experience: Minimum of 18 months PCU nursing experience Current RN licensure with BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications Skilled in essential nursing functions including teamwork and communication Proficient with tracheostomy care, cardiac drip management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tube management, blood product administration, wound care, and central line management Comfortable with specialty monitoring equipment and a team-based care environment Open to floating within the regional hospital network as needed Location Details: Gastonia, NC offers a vibrant small-city atmosphere with easy access to nature, local dining, and cultural activities. Responsibilities Include: Deliver patient-centered nursing care in a stepdown unit environment Collaborate closely with CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, and hospitalists to ensure seamless patient management Utilize EMR systems (Epic) and advanced telemetry monitoring tools confidently Adhere to patient safety protocols including fall prevention and effective use of positioning aids Participate in weekend rotations every other week, with no call expectations Maintain navy blue scrubs; free parking available This contract role includes a thorough orientation, weekend rotation every other week, and holiday coverage at 75%. Shift hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Schedule cycles rotate every six weeks. Floating within a defined regional network is required with compensation for travel time between facilities.
