Health to find a qualified Peds Med/Surg RN in Charlotte, North
Carolina, 28203! Job Title: RN - Pediatric CVICU Profession:
Registered Nurse Specialty: Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care
Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift:
36 Experience: Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience
in a similar facility License: Required Certifications: BLS, PALS,
NIHSS Must-Have: - Experience with fresh open heart post-operative
patients - Transplant experience - Experience with Aquadex (renal
replacement therapy), Impella, ECMO - EPIC experience - Competency
to float to PICU discussed during interview Description: The
facility has 247 licensed beds and is recognized as a Level 1
Pediatric Trauma Center. It is also a teaching hospital and a
certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center. The Congenital Cardiology
Program is ranked 7. The unit has 20 beds divided into two mirrored
sides with a centralized nurses' station. The most critical
patients are placed behind the nurses' station. The patient
population includes very high acuity patients aged 0-18 years.
Common diagnoses include congenital heart differences,
post-operative care, medical management for transplants, and
patients requiring advanced cardiac support. Nurse-to-patient
ratios vary based on acuity, typically 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2. Staffing
includes support from a healthcare technician per shift for unit
secretary and nursing support duties. A unit secretary is available
every shift along with a charge nurse who is free-floating.
Phlebotomy is available in-house but mostly, central lines are
utilized for patients. An IV/VAT team is available, as well as
respiratory therapy and intensivist support 24/7. Floating may
occur to other units as necessary, including PICU, NICU, and
General Pediatrics. The unit culture emphasizes teamwork, trust,
and accountability. Weekends and holiday rotations are part of the
scheduling expectations, with travelers working 75% of holidays.
Requests for time off require manager approval. Shift times are
