Experience: 2 years Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience in a similar
facility for acuity License: Required licensure Certifications:
BLS, PALS, NIHSS Must-Have: Experience with fresh open heart
post-operative patients. Transplant experience. Experience with
Aquadex (renal replacement therapy), Impella, ECMO. EPIC
experience. Ability/competency to float to PICU discussed during
interview. Description: This position is for a registered nurse in
the Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. The unit consists
of 20 beds, divided into two mirrored sides with centralized
nursing stations. The most critical patients are placed closest to
the nurses' station. Patient population includes very high acuity
patients aged 0-18 years. Common diagnoses include congenital heart
differences post-surgery, medical management pre and
post-transplant, and patients receiving ECMO or dialysis. Patient
ratios vary based on acuity, typically 1:1 or 1:2. There is no CNA
support; however, one health care tech is present each day to
assist with unit secretary duties. Unit support includes
free-floating charge nurses, phlebotomy services, and a dedicated
resource nurse. Cardiologists and intensivists are available 24/7.
The electronic medical record system used in the unit is EPIC.
Registered nurses may float to PICU and NICU as needed. Weekend
rotation and holiday expectations apply, with travelers required to
work a majority of holidays. The unit culture emphasizes teamwork,
