Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 07/14/2025 - Duration: 13 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, nights - Employment Type: Travel Registered Nurse – PCU (Progressive Care Unit) Facility: Johnson City Medical Center Location: 400 N State of Franklin Rd Johnson City, TN 37604 Contract Details: - Start Date: July 13, 2025 (Tentative) - Assignment Length: 13 weeks - Open Positions: 1 - Shift: Night | 3x12-Hour (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM) Job Description & Responsibilities: Join the dynamic PCU unit (Progressive Care/Stepdown) at Johnson City Medical Center, a respected facility within the Ballad Health System. This role is ideal for nurses seeking a challenging and fulfilling patient care environment with support from a full interdisciplinary team. Key Duties: - Care for adult patients with complex medical conditions (1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio) - Handle a wide range of clinical situations, including respiratory support, telemetry, IV therapy, and cardiac monitoring - Float to Medical-Surgical units as needed (ratios up to 1:7) - Work collaboratively with IV Teams, Respiratory Therapists, Physical Therapy, Social Services, Radiology, and more - Support nursing students and actively contribute to their clinical learning as part of Ballad Health’s commitment to education Required Experience & Skills: - Minimum Experience: 2 years of recent PCU or related experience - First-Time Travelers Accepted: Yes - Float Requirement: Yes (PCU to Med-Surg with 1:7 ratio) - Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend - Scheduling Type: Self-scheduling Required Certifications (AHA only): - BLS – Basic Life Support - ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support - NIHSS – Stroke Certification Clinical Skills & Competency Areas: (skills marked with * are preferred) - IV Therapy & Phlebotomy: Starting IVs*, PICC line care*, Blood product admin* - Respiratory Care: CPAP/BiPAP*, High Flow Nasal Cannula*, Chest tubes*, ABG interpretation* - Cardiac Monitoring: Telemetry, Cardiac/Vasoactive drips (manage and titrate), Dysrhythmia interpretation - GI & Renal: Feeding tube care*, Pre/Post Hemodialysis*, Renal failure - Emergency Response: Rapid Response Team involvement*, Post-MI care*, Cardiac cath prep/recovery* - Endocrine/Metabolic: IV Insulin Protocols*, Titration of Insulin drips* Compliance & Submission Requirements: - License: Active RN license in-hand (no pending) - Local Radius Rule: Travelers must reside 100 miles from facility (locals not accepted) Facility Overview: - Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital (within Ballad Health System) - Unit: PCU – 37 beds, 37 rooms - Charting System: EPIC (preferred) - COVID Vaccine: Not required - Flu Vaccine: Required (Medical/Religious Exemptions Only About HonorVet Technologies HonorVet Technologies: Pioneering Purpose, Empowering Heroes Founded in 2015, HonorVet Technologies stands as a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), proudly certified by NaVOBA and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
