This role will be responsible for implementing progressive sales and business strategies in order to strengthen existing client relationships and to materially grow and expand relationships with new private and public sector clients. In addition, this role develops and executes strategies for obtaining new clients in existing and new business lines as well as new project opportunities. Identifies all potential leads in the public and private sectors, researches background data, prioritizes with the Business Unit Leaders, Preconstruction, and Marketing to follow through with the strategies for selected projects. Pulls on, and coordinates with, operational and other subject matter experts within the business to pursue opportunities, build relationships internally and externally and to develop basic sales skills in others in our business. Essential Functions Exhibits initiative, takes ownership of tasks, participates positively and contributes ideas for development in the strategic business planning process. Able to understand market trends, and use research skills to gain information on our markets including competitive intelligence, political landscape and our business edge. Supports business development meetings where we communicate, identify, update the status of, and select target projects. Keeps, updates and provides market and company statistics relevant to the business strategy. Able to draw in, and coordinate the efforts of, others in the pursuit of new clients and project opportunities. Demonstrates strong skills in the ability to successfully develop, implement and execute sales strategies which employ a team approach and incorporate others in the efforts toward achieving goals, expanding customers, and growing opportunities to pursue profitable work and increasing sales of profitable projects. Assesses, implements and re-assesses win strategies. Assists in leading the team effort to respond to requests for proposals, qualifications, and other information required in pursuit of projects. Develops and directs the implementation strategy (format, objectives, features, benefits, differentiators, etc.). Is an active leader and coordinator in the execution of presentation strategy (format, objectives, features, benefits, differentiators, etc.) Provides training and preparation for presenters, and observes and provides feedback. Exposes themselves to the execution side of the business through various means including attending job progress meetings, participating in safety walks and visiting jobsites to form relationships with jobsite personnel, to be aware of operational issues associated with our projects and to hone awareness of operational capabilities. Seeks feedback from owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers, and develops and implements procedures to benchmark our performance against competitors. Acts as a business development mentor for others in our business in the form of sharing and educating on best practices, new projects, and ideas. Ensures we are represented at appropriate conferences, conventions, trade shows, and industry award events. Distributes company information to clients, business associations, communities, and other professional groups in an effective, consistent and timely manner. Participates in a leadership role in industry organizations to enhance our position and image. Builds strong knowledge of the construction process, delivery methods and our capabilities, as well as industry changes. Minimum Requirements B.S. degree 10+ years of professional business development experience required. Preferred Experience B.S. in Business/Marketing/Communications preferred. Local candidate preferred. 10+ years of A/E/C business development experience or Tier 1 Construction business development experience highly desired. Makes decisions under tight deadlines, occasionally in the face of incomplete information. Builds constructive and effective relationships, and establishes rapport; relates to all kinds of people at all levels inside and outside the organization. Creates team relationships and followership. Creates, manages, and revises schedules and related assignments based on priorities while considering work/life balance for self and others. Energetic about challenges, self-motivated and able to focus on long term objectives and push for results. Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication and organization skills. Acts in a manner of integrity that shows support for the company, its values, and those of the employees while maintaining a constant focus on meeting/exceeding customer requirements and expectations. Demonstrates leadership skills with ability and willingness to face challenges, delegate and provide direction to others, and effectively address conflict.
