Public Works DepartmentSalary Range: $88,312.73 - $127,261.17 (DOQ*) General Duties and Responsibilities: -Plans, coordinates and directs department operations, staff and contractors in general services including building maintenance, cemetery operations/maintenance, solid waste collection, automotive maintenance/repair and street repair/maintenance. Work involves short and long range planning, and major construction projects; supervision of a staff of approximately 46 employees; management of the department capital and operating budgets of 4+ million dollars, capital improvement recommendations and coordination of design, bidding, construction mgmt. inspection and acceptance for the City. Must represent the City in multiple regional and state issues and insure effective productivity of assigned personnel. Work is performed under the direction of the City Manager. -Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: -Must have outstanding project management and organizational skills, including a thorough knowledge of departmental budgeting practices. Must have outstanding supervisory and customer service skills. Must have the ability to plan, organize and delegate work in various service functions. Must have the ability to exercise sound professional judgement and to interpret and prepare complex and detailed records and reports and communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Work involves considerable public contact, initiative and judgment, and a talent for excellent customer service to the public, City officials and staff, and fellow coworkers. Requirements: -Requires graduation from an accredited 4-yr. college or university w/ a degree in business or public admin, civil engineering, management, or related field and considerable related experience in municipal engineering or public works field including some supervisory and management experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Professional Engineering (PE) certification is preferred. Possession of a valid NC drivers' license required. City Residency will be required within 12 months of appointment.
