Job Description:
Engineering Manager
SUMMARY
---
Plan and direct the overall engineering activities of the Logistics
& Automation Division.
---
Provide supervisory guidance, mentorship, and development of the
engineering and project management Department in regards to
Automated Material Handling Systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other
duties may be assigned.
---
Direct, schedule, and monitor the Engineering Department
responsible for design, documentation, and functionality of
automated material handling systems.
---
Direct engineering work in conjunction with sales campaigns to
accomplish engineering studies, data collection, data analysis,
system operations, time study, system layout drawings, system
specifications, cost development, and proposal arrangement.
---
Interface with the Sales Team and customers on any project
inquiries when necessary.
---
Direct department activities to accomplish design & layout reviews,
pricing evaluation, qualify request for quotes, sales inquiry
evaluation, and general system engineering task.
---
Assist in the planning of projects, scheduling, and oversee project
managers.
---
Consult with management, operations, and sales staff to determine
engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand
for existing products.
---
Forecast and control operating costs of department.
---
Effectively work and communicate with the engineering team
regarding material handling technologies.
---
Communicate regularly with Japan counterparts regarding design,
schedule, implementation, process, procedures, etc.
---
Cost calculation for quotations utilizing input from
subcontractors.
Evaluate subcontractors with purchasing buyers.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
---
Directly supervise employees in the Engineering Department. Carry
out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the
organization's policies and applicable laws.
---
Responsibilities include:
o
Interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning,
and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and
disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving
problems.
QUALIFICATIONS
---

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
---
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or
related field (Master's Degree is a plus)
---
7-10 years of relevant experience and 4 years working experience in
Engineering Management and AMHS; or equivalent combination of
education and experience.
---
Factory Automation and/or Distribution Centers experience is a
plus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
---
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and
technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
---
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from
customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business
community.
---
Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform
to prescribed style and format.
---
Ability to effectively present information to top management,
public groups, and/or boards of directors.
---
Japanese language skills a plus.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
---
Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
---
Knowledge and experience with personal computers and technical
computer applications.
---
Proficient in the use of CAD Software (AutoCAD.
Solidworks).
---
Strong motivation to teach, mentor, learn and contribute to the
team are essential.
---
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills are a must.
TRAVEL
---
This position requires up to 30% travel including domestic and
international with overnight stays.
---
A valid driver's license and good driving record are required.
