Charlotte Water is an enterprise department of the City of
Charlotte and one of the largest public water and sewer service
providers in the southeast with over 330,000 customer accounts and
over 1100 employees. Our service area includes the City of
Charlotte, Mecklenburg County and the towns of Huntersville,
Cornelius, Davidson, Mint Hill, Matthews and Pineville. Charlotte

positon is: $25.00 - $28.38, Commensurate with Experience JOB
SUMMARY: This position assists in the maintenance and repair of
sewer lift stations. Work involves inspecting sewage pumping
equipment; recording pump run times; looking and listening for
abnormalities from machinery; recording chemical tank levels;
inspecting emergency generator units and associated equipment
including fuel systems; assisting in the maintenance, repair, and
the rebuild of the mechanical equipment found in sewage pump
stations; performing tests to determine operating efficiency of
equipment; and using safety, electrical, and mechanical tools. This
position also documents readings, prepares reports, and responds to
emergencies. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Conducts station inspections
and inspects sewage pump equipment, emergency generator units, and
associated equipment, including fuel systems; looks and listens for
abnormalities from machinery Assists with maintaining, repairing,
and rebuilding mechanical equipment found in sewage pump stations.
Performs tests to determine the operating efficiency of equipment.
Performs preventive and scheduled maintenance to ensure continuous
equipment operation. Records run times and chemical tank levels.;
documents readings; and prepares reports Performs basic algebra and
statistical calculations. Operates equipment and machinery as
needed. Maintains and properly uses a variety of safety,
electrical, and mechanical tools in order to maintain equipment,
including volt-ohm-amp meters, meg-ohm meters, gas monitors,
pressure gauges, hand tools, power tools, and safety
harness/tripods/ventilation. Follows safety regulations and
protocols; always maintains focus to prevent bodily injury.
Performs other related job duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
TO PERFORM WORK: High school diploma or GED from an accredited
school. Three (3) years of related work experience. OR an
equivalent combination of education and relevant
work/industry/military/job specific experience that provides the
necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform
the essential job functions. Licenses, Certifications or
Registrations: Requires a valid driver’s license. Must obtain and
maintain a City Driver’s Permit. Requires a NC Collection System
Operators Grade I state certification (or obtaining level 1
certification within 18 months of hire) with progressive levels of
certification each year thereafter. Knowledge, Skills and
Abilities: Knowledge of technical or trade-based work. Skill in
using basic algebra and statistics. Skill in using heavy equipment.
Skill in using basic tools and instrumentation. Ability to follow
safety directions. Ability to follow instructions. Ability to
obtain a City driving authorization. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is
very heavy work and requires applying up to 20 pounds of force
constantly; applying 50 pounds of force frequently; and exerting up
to 100 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Additionally,
the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing,
crawling, crouching, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, handling,
perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, distinguishing among
sounds, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing,
reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping,
expressing ideas by spoken word, shouting above noises, visual
acuity in data/color/observations/equipment/inspections, and
walking. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an environment
where errors on this job can lead to significant physical or mental
consequences for self or others. Requires working in confined
spaces, below ground including wet wells and working at heights,
working under varied and adverse weather conditions; and responding
to after-hour alarms subject to emergency call-back. ADDITIONAL
