The OpportunityWhat do we do, and how do you fit
in?Curtiss-Wright is seeking an outstanding individual for the role
of Director of Engineering. This role will be located at the U.S.
facility in Shelby, North Carolina, approximately 45 miles west of
Charlotte. It will also be working collaboratively with our Exlar
facility in Chanhassen, MN.The Shelby facility operates with an
emphasis on cost-efficient production of small and medium-sized
production runs of both OEM and customer designed specialized
equipment. Mature program management methodologies and the
effective implementation of Advanced Quality System (AQS) practices
have enabled the Shelby facility to achieve a 99% production
delivery rating to its customers for many years while maintaining
external quality ratings typically in excess of 99%.Location:
Shelby, NCYour Challenge:Reporting to the Sr General Manager of CW
Actuation Group, you will be accountable for delivering the
performance objectives of the Actuation Group. You will be an
integral member of the management team guiding strategy development
and engineering execution. Along with providing leadership and
guidance to the design engineering group to facilitate the delivery
of a complete design package (analysis and drawings), maintenance
of current design, and coordinating design efforts with the other
groups within the organization.Position Responsibilities:
- Strategic planning
- Participate in Strategic planning sessions, identifying market
needs, trends, gaps and collateral impacts across the business
- Completing an Annual Operating Plan (AOP) for Engineering
including key NPI and IRAD objectives, cost and capital plans and
technology advancements
- Develop technology roadmap in collaboration with BD
- Execute IRAD projects outlined in the tech roadmap
- Talent development and management
- Hire, train and advance the skills, capabilities and knowledge
base commensurate with the current and future core competencies
required to support the business objectives
- Adjust staffing levels as required
- Developing and advancing staff succession and career
development plans
- Infrastructure development
- Maintain effective systems and equipment, including design and
analyses tools and engineering test & development lab capabilities,
upgrading as needed
- Project management
- Developing and, upon approval, executing to meet or exceed
technical, NRE and RC cost and NPI schedule requirements of NPI and
IRAD programs and projects
- Sustaining Engineering
- Provide support to Operations for production and fielded
product as needed to resolve/disposition non-conformances,
manufacturability and/or product reliability concerns
- Forecasting
- Forecasting 1-3 year Engineering staffing, capital and
investment needs to ensure sustaining engineering support as well
as meeting business growth objectives
- Developing and, upon approval, execute to achieve the AOP for
Engineering
- Updating monthly financial forecasts in the financial system
(Adaptive)
- Business Development
- Supporting BD/Sales customer visits, technical and industry
conferences, and presenting whitepapers/capabilities to appropriate
audiences
- Completing technical, cost and schedule proposals for new
products in accordance with bid requirements, and supporting the
bid negotiations as required
- Customer management
- Provide professional, responsive and effective support to
customers throughout the business cycle, from bid proposal through
to aftermarket concerns
- Senior Management team
- Communicating concerns and variances to BU GM as well as any
other appropriate personnel
- Engage in BU business reviews, evaluating cross functional
concerns and supporting opportunities for improvement promoting a
culture of performance and teamworkFunctional areas reporting to

you:Your Expertise:
- Bachelor degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical
Engineering), Masters degree preferred
- 10 years plus in aerospace/electromechanical design
experience
- Prior experience in aerospace mechanical systems, electrical
systems or systems engineering
- 5-10 years in managing engineering department of at least 40
people
- Prior experience in managing complex NPI programs with budgets
above $20M
- Proven accomplishments in positions of leadership managing
various levels of engineers and the ability to interact with all
levels of internal and external management
- Project management experience and familiarity in root cause and
corrective action methodologies
- Creative and innovative in order to propose new design concepts
to meet customer requirements as well as new product potential
within the overall aims of the corporation
- Familiarity with CAD and other computer applications (such as
Catia) is required in this position.
- Leadership: a demonstrated ability to lead people and get
results through others
- Management: the ability to organize and manage multiple
development programs and priorities
- Problem analysis and problem resolution
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
