Charlotte Water is an enterprise department of the City of
Charlotte and one of the largest public water and sewer service
providers in the southeast with over 330,000 customer accounts and
over 1100 employees. Our service area includes the City of
Charlotte, Mecklenburg County and the towns of Huntersville,
Cornelius, Davidson, Mint Hill, Matthews and Pineville. Charlotte
Water’s FY 26 budget is $651 million and a five-year capital

position is $29.58-$32.86, Commensurate with Experience. JOB
SUMMARY: This position administers the City of Charlotte’s Flow
Free Program. This program ensures compliance of local businesses
with the City of Charlotte’s Sewer Use Ordinance and Grease Trap
Policy. Work involves inspecting grease interceptors and traps as
well as commercial businesses such as restaurants, hotels and
daycare centers that are required to install, operate, and maintain
these devices under the Sewer Use Ordinance. This position also
conducts investigations in coordination with other divisions and
agencies; collects samples of raw sewage and grease, contacts and
informs customers of policy and program requirements. This position
also develops and delivers educational outreach presentations and
seminars to large and small groups such as association meetings,
festivals and schools. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Ensures compliance
of local businesses/industries with the City of Charlotte’s Sewer
Use Ordinance and Grease Trap Policy. Inspects
restaurants/hotels/daycare centers and other customer facilities
and sewer connections. Enters data into tracking spreadsheet
Investigates sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) or other irregular
discharges. Research historical data on collection system,
restaurants, or spills. Updates database information; completes
paperwork; and creates inspection reports. Conducts enforcement
actions in accordance with the Sewer Use Ordinance and Enforcement
Response Plan Assists other areas of Charlotte Water. Conducts
educational outreach presentations and seminars. Performs other
related job duties as assigned. Serves in a rotational on call
status MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK: High School Diploma
Two- or four-year degree with courses in sciences a plus Two (2)
years of related work experience. Must be able to lift and carry at
least 60 pounds and walk sewer lines over rough, uneven terrain.
Some bending, stooping, lifting required. Licenses, Certifications
or Registrations: Requires a valid driver’s license. Must obtain
and maintain a City Driver’s Permit. Water and wastewater
certifications a plus Industrial Pretreatment Program Specialist
Certification a plus Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of
plumbing and mechanical/industrial plant processes. Knowledge of
common computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite of
products. Skill in communicating, both verbally and in writing.
Skill in speaking Spanish (a plus). Ability to obtain a City
driving permit. Ability to observe details. Ability to collect
wastewater samples PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is medium work and
requires applying 30 pounds of force frequently and exerting up to
75 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Additionally, the
following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing,
crouching, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, perceiving sounds
at normal speaking levels, distinguishing among sounds, kneeling,
lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive
motion, speaking, standing, stooping, expressing ideas by spoken
word, shouting above noises, visual acuity in
data/color/observations/equipment/ inspections, and walking. WORK
ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed part of the time working in an
environment where errors on this job can lead to significant
physical or mental consequences for self or others. Work
environment may periodically have unpredicted requirements or
demands. Requires working various weather conditions; working
on-call as scheduled and working after hours during evenings,
